BMRH/JOHANNESBURG (AP) Ford has released its first concept of a lightweight, electrically powered, four-wheel-drive M4 sports car based on a platform it unveiled at the 2016 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The concept car, unveiled during the automaker’s “Vision 2030” summit, is intended to demonstrate the automakers commitment to developing a fully electric vehicle.
Ford is trying to capitalize on the growing popularity of electric vehicles with its 2018 Model 3 and 2020 Model 3.
The automaker has said the new electric vehicles will be able to travel up to 300 miles on a single charge and have a range of up to 250 miles.
Ford said the M4 is based on the platform it launched at the Frankfurt Motor show last year.
Ford said it has tested the concept at the company’s test facility in Northbrook, Illinois.
